Dame Sian Phillips at Eleven Spitalfields Gallery

Critically-acclaimed British actress, Dame Sian Phillips, made a rare appearance to read for Pin Drop Studio in February 2016.

Phillips is perhaps best known for starring in the adaptation of Robert Graves’s novel I, Claudius, for which she won the 1977 BAFTA Television Award for Best Actress.  She also appeared opposite Peter O’Toole in Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Murphy’s War, and opposite Richard Burton in Becket.  She is also known for playing Lady Ann in the original BBC dramas Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley’s People.  Phillips also has numerous theatre credits include performances at the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and most recently in Cabaret, for which she received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Performance in a Musical.

Phillips read The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, during Miranda Argyle’s exhibition at Eleven Spitalfields Gallery, housed in an histrorical building within the Fournier Street Conservation Area.
